Job Description:

The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow or Licensed Psychologist to serve as an embedded Integrated Behavioral Health Consultant within the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) Family Medicine Residency primary care clinic. The UMKC Family Medicine Residency program provides interdisciplinary patient care and education in a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home. The Fellowship position is designed to prepare psychologists for a career in Integrated Primary Care. Opportunities available, for either Fellow or Licensed Psychologist, to provide formal and information education to UMKC Family Medicine Resident Physicians, UMKC Medical Students, and UMKC Doctoral Psychology practicum students.

  • Introduce patients to the role of psychologists in the integrated care setting using the biopsychosocial model.

  • Utilize appropriate screening assessment tools including PHQ-9, SBIRT and others and use results to guide treatment plan.

  • Identify referral problem and provide evidence-based interventions appropriate for the medical setting.

  • Coordinate care with treatment team members, including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse care managers, registered dietitians, pharmacists, and community resources.

  • Provide interventions for patients including chronic pain management, diabetes management, stress management, depression/anxiety, smoking cessation, weight loss and others utilizing CBT,DBT,ACT, mindfulness-based approaches and other evidence-based approaches.

  • Serve as consultant on behavioral health issues to members of the treatment team both informally and through developing and presenting educational lectures and written materials to the team members

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology
  • License-eligible as a Provisionally Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Psychologist in the State of Missouri
  • Must have knowledge of psychological terminology, the process of diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of psychotherapy and have basic research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational ability, and social facility are required for the ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and to provide education to staff and in the community.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good independent judgment, adapt to new duties, and work in a changing environment.
  • Completion of training as directed through orientation and/or Leadership, Management or Educators in the established timeline for continued employment.
