Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment (7 CE’s)

Presented by Aimee Dershowitz, Psy.D.

June 24th,  8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Instructional Level

Introductory — Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.

Course Description and Target Audience

This presentation will focus on the tools and instruments commonly used to assess for Autism Spectrum Disorder. It will provide video demonstrations of many characteristics and behaviors of typically developing individuals in comparison with those same behaviors exhibited by someone on the spectrum. Several of the videos are pulled directly from the CDC as they pertain to Autism Spectrum Disorder assessment. However, training on how to administer specific instruments used to assess for ASD will not be provided, which is a limitation. There are no known risks to this presentation.

The target audience is mental health providers (advanced doctoral level psychology trainees, psychologists in practice, master’s level clinicians, etc).

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Participants will be able to list common assessment instruments used to assess for ASD.
  • Participants will be able to analyze a child with ASD and a typically developing child in videos.
  • Participants will be able to identify appropriate recommendations to include in a report if a diagnosis of ASD is given.
  • Participants will be able to distinguish typically developing children from children with ASD on characteristics associated with an ASD diagnosis.
