What is the current annual pay?

Annual pay varies at each site. Please see the site pages for more details about pay and benefits.

What is the cost of living?

Cost of living estimates will vary by region. Due to our focus on rural psychology, many of our sites are in areas where the cost of living is far lower than in other parts of the country. The pay provided at many of our sites will go farther than it would in more expensive parts of the country.

Specific information can be provided by request, and matched interns will recieve a resource guide shortly after matching.

Will I need a car as an intern?

While some interns have completed internship without a vehicle, we strongly recommend that interns have their own form of transportation due to the rural nature of most of our sites. In addition, some rotations require interns to travel between site locations, and travel is required for didactics.

How often do I need to travel for didactics?

In the Cascades Region, interns will travel for didactics on the first Friday of every month. Didactics will be hosted by HealthPoint in Renton, WA and by Community Health of Central Washington in Yakima, WA on an alternating basis.

In the Central, Great Lakes, and Cy-Hawk Regions, interns will travel for in-person didactics once per quarter. Didactics will take place in Springfield or Jefferson City, MO for Central Region interns and in Peru, Lafayette, Carmel, or Noblesville, IN for Great Lakes Region interns. Didactics will be held in Ames, Iowa for the Cy-Hawk Region.

How does NPTC facilitate social opportunities for interns in each region?

Social events in the Cascades Region typically take place when interns come together for didactics once per month. Chief interns in the Cascades Region also plan intern-led social events throughout the training year.

Social events in the Central and Great Lakes Regions typically take place when interns come together for didactics once per quarter. Intern representatives in each of these regions also plan social events for interns outside of didactics. In the past, intern-led social events across all regions have included virtual game nights, virtual Uber Eats socials, ski trips, ice cream socials, and roller-skating parties.

What type of benefits does NPTC offer?

What is a consortium?

Please see “Guidelines for Development of Consortia” from APPIC by following the link.

What does it mean to be Partially Affiliated?

The National Psychology Training Consortium is partially affiliated with both The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and Pacific University School of Professional Psychology. These partial affiliations state that between equal candidates, students from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology or Pacific University School of Professional Psychology will be given preference. Interns from other programs will still be considered and are encouraged to apply.

The following table shows the ratio of interns from affiliated sites to interns from non-affiliated sites for each of our regions from the past three years:

2021-2022 2022-2023 2023-2024
Cascades Central Great Lakes Cascades Central Great Lakes Cascades Central Great Lakes
Chicago School 1 1 5 1 2 6 0 2 5
Pacific University 4 1 0 3 2 0 1 0 0
Non-Affiliated 5 28 19 10 36 14 11 35 14
