Psychology interns assigned to NPTC member sites are considered psychology interns of NPTC but employees of the Member site. As employees, interns will receive the benefits provided to other employees of similar ranking in their agency. Available benefits and observed holidays are subject to change, so please refer to your site HR department for the most up-to-date information and any benefit questions. In general sites tend to offer the following benefits:
● Annual pay: Interns will be provided with an annual pay amount that is within the pay range approved by the Board of Directors for that year. Specific site pay amounts are designated in the appropriate NPTC promotional materials and intern contract. This may be classified as hourly or salary pay depending on how the intern is categorized within the employment system and sites are required to adhere to FLSA laws regarding exempt/non-exempt status and overtime pay for interns (if applicable).
● Paid Leave: As employees of their agencies, interns will receive the same paid leave as other employees of the same/similar level and receive the paid holidays that are observed at the site. Paid leave totals and observed holidays will be discussed in more detail during each site’s benefit orientation.
● Insurance: Interns are provided access to medical insurance for themselves and family members. Many sites also provide additional supplemental insurances such as dental, vision, disability, etc. Details regarding available plans and eligibility will be provided during each site’s benefits orientation.
● Mileage Reimbursement: If interns are required to travel as a part of their internship experience, any mileage reimbursement received will follow the individual site’s mileage reimbursement policy.
● Professional liability insurance: Interns who are not already covered by their school’s professional liability policy while on internship will either be covered by the site’s policy or will be reimbursed for the cost of an individual APA Trust policy during their internship year.
