Psychology intern recruitment and selection will be coordinated by the Site Training Directors with input from the NPTC Administrative Office. In September of each year, NPTC will host a Virtual Open House series that may include a live, virtual meeting per region. These meetings should provide information about participating sites’ positions and application process with time for a Q&A portion with live questions or presubmitted questions from applicants. The Site Training Director should attend the meeting for their region and be prepared to present the overview of their site. If the Site Training Director is unable to attend, a Consortium-approved person from the organization may attend instead and present the overview. Each meeting will be recorded. The recordings will be made public on YouTube and/or other social media and be distributed via email. Sites are also encouraged to use these meetings as a launching point for their own marketing events and advertise follow-up open houses and/or supervisor/intern meetings during the match season.
The APPIC online portal opens on October 1st of each year. The NPTC application deadline typically falls in mid-November. All applications submitted to NPTC will first be reviewed by members of the Administrative Office to ensure all applicants meet minimum Consortium requirements. Site Training Directors will then have approximately three weeks to review applicants and update their interview preferences in Kintone. NPTC will submit all rejection notices or interview invitations through the NMS Portal by the stated notification deadline (often mid-December).
Each site will be responsible for planning and scheduling their interview process. This includes submitting the interview schedule and any handouts or virtual meeting links to NPTC at least one week prior to the interview notification deadline. NPTC staff members are available for consultation meetings to discuss interview schedule options for any site that needs additional assistance. NPTC will update sites on a regular basis with the interview selections provided by the applicants in the National Matching Services (NMS) portal. Once interviews are completed, the Site Training Directors and Supervisors will have until the first week in February to update their ranking decisions in Kintone. The rankings will then be submitted to the NMS portal by NPTC on behalf of the site. Phase I Match Day is set by APPIC and happens toward the end of February each year. Phase II of the Match program follows all of the expectations listed for Phase I, but is held from the end of February through mid-March and Phase II Match Day is typically held at the end of March.
The Site Training Directors and NPTC staff will oversee the recruitment process and the selection process to ensure equitable treatment of all applicants and adherence to the standards of both the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC).
