About These Rotations

Interns apply to regions of outpatient offices within Compass Health rather than specific offices. Specific offices will be communicated during the interview process. Each location is equipped with the testing and training materials necessary for the interns to complete the requirements of their training year. Psychology interns at Compass Health sites use both hands-on and virtual training, as well as a full training library of web-based programs for the interns and staff to access as they are able based on their licenses/interests. Interns are provided with their own office space complete with computer and access to the internet and printer.

Rotation Schedule

Interns with Compass Health will generally work a Monday – Friday schedule from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm each day. No weekend work or after hours on-call is required, and schedule specifics will vary based on training and intern preferences/needs.

The primary office location for this region is in Raymore, though interns may rotate into nearby offices for a day or two per week. Each location in this region is approximately two and a half hours from the didactic training sites in Springfield, Columbia, and Jefferson City.

Supervised Experiences

Most commonly seen diagnoses at this placement include major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, various personality disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, a variety of psychotic disorders, and substance use disorders. Our primary referral questions for psychological assessment are ADHD and ASD.

Patient Populations

 

 

 

Most Compass Health clients are Caucasian, chronically mentally ill, and/or lower SES. Some locations closer to larger cities also serve a diverse range of ethnic groups, with higher levels of education and SES. Compass Health clients often manage barriers such as transportation, cost, and childcare. Typically, our areas served do not have public transportation, and thus the cost of a vehicle and gasoline, as well as car insurance, can cause difficulty. In addition, many of our clients do not have access to affordable childcare, which is also a barrier to them receiving treatment. We serve clients across the lifespan with respect to therapy and assessment. The following table shows a breakdown of some patient demographics within the Raymore office from 2022-2023:

Sean Sargent, Psy.D.

Staff Psychologist

Dr. Sean Sargent earned his degree in Clinical Psychology in 2010 at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, completing his master’s en route (with a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT)). He completed his internship and post-doctoral residency at Burrell Behavioral Health. His training and experience have primarily consisted of community mental health settings. He has developed a specialty interest in psychological assessment for children and adults, including diagnostic clarification, autism spectrum diagnoses, and disability determination evaluations. He has experience providing individual and couples counseling, utilizing primarily cognitive-behavioral therapies. Dr. Sargent has had the opportunity to provide supervision to pre-doctoral interns and residents. His theoretical orientation emphasizes aspects of systemic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, while utilizing a multicultural lens to provide a further understanding of his clients.

Cody Bond, Psy.D.

Director of Outpatient Services

Dr. Cody Bond is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been with Compass Health since 2019 and has over a decade’s worth of experience working in rural community mental health. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO, and his internship and post-doctoral residency were both completed at a forensic residential facility working with civilly committed sex offenders. While Dr. Bond no longer works in forensics, he takes what he learned from that experience and uses it to help the clients he works with today. Dr. Bond takes an eclectic approach with his clients and firmly believes in individualizing a variety of evidence-based practices for his clients when formulating treatment and interventions. He is trained in CBT, CBT-I, CPT, DBT, and Biofeedback (BF)/Neurofeedback (NF). He provides clinical supervision for pre-doctoral interns, residents, and practicum students.

Brett Miller, Psy.D.

Staff Psychologist

Dr. Brett Miller has been a licensed psychologist in the State of Missouri since 2013. He received his doctorate in psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri in 2012. He is originally from Minnesota and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Minnesota State University in 2007. Dr. Miller works primarily in individual therapy as well as with psychological assessments. He considers his theoretical orientation to be primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and specializes in the treatment of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Dr. Miller enjoys working with clients of all ages, including marriage and family therapies. Additional interests in treatment for Dr. Miller include use of mindfulness and neuro-feedback.

Sarah Galvin, Ph.D.

Staff Psychologist

Dr. Sarah Galvin is a licensed psychologist who has been with Compass Health since 2021, completing both her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral residency at the Compass Health Network Raymore office. She earned her PhD in counseling psychology from Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Galvin works with children and adolescents ages 2-18 for therapy and psychological assessment. She conceptualizes and uses an integrative approach to treatment, including relational/interpersonal therapy, play therapy, and CBT. She is also in the process of becoming PCIT and TF-CBT certified. Her psychological assessments primarily focus on autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Galvin additionally provides clinical supervision to pre-doctoral interns.

Western Region
Typically it is difficult for interns to secure housing far in advance in Missouri – 3-6 months out is common, and at 6 months you may not find much inventory.
Raymore is a great location no matter where you decide to live. There is not public transportation in the area that an intern would be able to utilize; it is important that they have access to a car.
