E.2.24.CEN – Burrell @ CoxHealth Training Manual Addendum

All interns will participate in the internship learning activities as specified in the manual. Specific site activities/rotations/requirements above and beyond what is listed in the manual are provided below:

Cox Health

Interns will have the opportunity to train at Cox North on the various inpatient units: child, adult, and older adult.  This rotation will include individual therapy, group therapy, and assessment for diagnostic clarification.  Interns will also spend time at Cox South with acute medical populations. There, they will offer mental health support to those navigating health concerns, offer brief therapeutic interventions, conduct risk assessments to determine if inpatient psychiatric treatment is warranted, and complete capacity evaluations to determine if patients are able to understand and make decisions regarding their medical treatment. Interns will also have the opportunity to train at the Meyer Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Hospital, a post-acute recovery setting. Encounters here will primarily focus on working with individuals who are recovering from orthopedic or neurological incidents (e.g., following motor vehicle accidents, strokes, etc.). Training opportunities are primarily individual therapy, but there are occasions for brief screening assessments.   All rotations involve crisis intervention and frequent collaboration and consultation with an interdisciplinary team.

Psychological Assessment at Burrell Behavioral Health

Dual Track interns will work with their assigned supervisor to complete outpatient psychological evaluations. Burrell provides training on a comprehensive battery that may include clinical interview, record review, gathering collateral information, and assessment of intellectual functioning, achievement, personality (objective and projective), symptom validity, and adaptive functioning.

It is expected that the internship and training activities come first and any other roles/duties are secondary to the completion of the internship program.

Supervision

In addition to individual supervision, interns with CoxHealth will also participate in weekly group supervision.

It is expected that the internship and training activities come first and any other roles/duties are secondary to the completion of the internship program.

Administrative Overview

Salary: $40,000

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week) generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on Monday – Friday; however there is some opportunity for flexibility as directed and approved by the intern’s supervisor. Interns will spend 3 days per week (24 hours) at CoxHealth and 2 days per week (16 hours) at Burrell Behavioral Health.

Overtime: Interns are allowed to work over 40 hours per week (never to exceed 50 hours per week), but only under the prior approval of their site Training Director.

Malpractice Insurance: If an intern is not covered by their school, Burrell Behavioral Health will provide insurance for them.

Mileage: Interns may be required to travel between multiple locations based on need and intern rotation interests. Mileage will reimbursed, as appropriate, in accordance with Burrell policy.

Benefits: Interns are eligible for benefits offered to other site employees. Benefits will be discussed in detail during site orientation.

Paid Time Off (PTO): 14 days (112 hours) combined vacation and sick leave available from your first day.

Professional Development Leave: 3 days (24 hours) of professional development leave. Professional Development time is not considered PTO time. To use this time, interns will coordinate their schedules with their Primary Supervisor and Training Director, and track the hours as hours worked in their local system and as “Professional Development Leave” in the NPTC time tracking portal.

In an effort to promote self-care, interns are encouraged to utilize all leave time. Burrell Behavioral Health will not pay out any remaining PTO balance at the end of the internship year; however, Burrell Behavioral Health may, in some cases, extend an official offer for interns to continue their employment within the agency following completion of internship. Interns who accept such offers of continued employment will be allowed to roll over any unused PTO into their annual leave bank. Since Professional Development time is not considered a type of PTO, unused Professional Development will not be paid out at the end of the year.
