A.07.24 – Chief Intern

Chief Intern

Each training year, two representatives from each region will be chosen to serve as advocates for the intern group in various roles throughout the training year. If there are enough interested individuals, interns may also be given the opportunity to change roles at the half-way point of the year for a total of four representatives over the course of the year. These individuals will be chosen following the selection procedures listed below and will be announced prior to the second Training Director’s meeting of the training year (CAS – August / CEN/GL – September).

Eligibility
In order to be considered for this role, interns must be in good standing as deemed by their respective site and they must have the support of their primary supervisor. Ideal intern representative characteristics include:

  • Organization skills
  • The ability to effectively advocate interns needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills

Selection Process
An individual interested in being the Chief intern will need to speak with their Primary Supervisor during the first two weeks of their internship. If their Primary Supervisor gives approval, the intern must email the Regional Training Director, the Site Training Director, their Primary Supervisor, and the Communication and Intern Relations Coordinator stating their interest in being the Chief intern.

  • If more than two interns are interested in the role (with distribution across agencies), NPTC will initiate a voting process to select the Chief Interns for the year.
  • If there are no intern volunteers, NPTC will ask the site Training Directors to nominate potential interns at their agencies as appropriate and allow the intern cohort to vote on the nominees.

Responsibility

Each Chief Intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  •  Regularly assess needs of interns in their region and report them to the Regional Training Director
  • Attend monthly Training Committee meetings
  • Report out relevant information to the intern cohort
  • Review site-marketing materials and provide feedback
  • Organize and assist with social events throughout the training year
  • Contribute posts for the monthly newsletter
  • Chief Interns may divide some responsibilities throughout the year (such as newsletter contributions). Schedules will be determined following the selection process.
