Site Learning Activities and Requirements #

All interns will participate in the internship learning activities as specified in the manual. Specific site activities/rotations/requirements above and beyond what is listed in the manual are provided below:

Experiences for Traditional interns:

  1. Develop the ability to utilize screening instruments to triage patients and provide comprehensive clinical assessments for those appropriate for specialty behavioral health care
  2. Develop additional knowledge and skills in evidence-based practices
  3. Provide individual, family, group, and crisis services
  4. Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary and integrated care team
  5. Demonstrate competency in the provision of services remotely through telemedicine technology
  6. Participate in two 6 month rotations (8-12 hours/week):
    • Substance Use Disorders – Interns will develop competency in facilitating substance use disorder best practices, as well as demonstrate understanding of medically-assisted treatment and the associated behavioral health practices. Interns will develop and hone their understanding of American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria to conceptualize cases and make treatment recommendations.
    • Behavioral Health Consultant (within the FQHC) – Interns will demonstrate the ability to construct a case conceptualization that incorporates a client’s medical diagnoses/treatment. They will provide brief behavioral medicine consultations and interventions with clients receiving primary health services.
  7. Specific interests in working with youth, home and community-based services, and adult residential treatment may also be incorporated into the training experience.

While there are specific differences in focus between the types of internships, all interns will have the opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams, join integrated care staffings and attend grand rounds.

It is expected that the internship and training activities come first and any other roles/duties are secondary to the completion of the internship program.
