E.3.24.CEN – Burrell Behavioral Health Training Manual Addendum

Site Learning Activities and Requirements

All interns will participate in the internship learning activities as specified in the manual. Specific site activities/rotations/requirements above and beyond what is listed in the manual are provided below:
Interns will complete two major rotations in the areas of Intervention and Assessment:

  • Therapeutic Intervention:  Intervention services may include individual therapy for all ages, family therapy, couples therapy, and group therapy.
  • Psychological Assessment:  This experience is designed to enhance the already established skill and knowledge base in the area of psychological assessment. The intern is expected to complete a minimum of 15 full psychological batteries focusing on the integration of various tests and report writing skills. The intern will be closely supervised through the process of conducting assessments. As competency is gained, the supervisor will allow a greater degree of autonomy. The intern is expected to incrementally become more proficient and sophisticated in their ability to perform and report assessments and results as the internship progresses.

Interns will have the opportunity to select at least one minor rotation for a commitment of at least 6 months (time may vary from approximately 4-12 hours per week). These minor rotations are available based on the developmental needs and interests of the intern. Minor rotation availability changes each year and examples have included the following:

  • Autism Center
  • Be Well Initiatives
  • DBT Team
  • Groups (variety of topics)
  • Neuropsychological Evaluations
  • Program Development
  • RecoverED (eating disorders treatment)
  • Youth substance use treatment
  • Youth Focus Clinic (ADHD assessment and treatment)
  • Youth Residential

Additional internship experiences may include:

  • Participation in peer review teams with multiple experienced clinicians
  • Participation in Burrell-sponsored research projects
  • Community presentations (internal and/or external)

The interns’ training and rotations will be highly influenced by their preferences and areas of interest.  They will receive information about each of the minor rotations available prior to their site orientation and will work with their supervisor to select the rotations which best fit their training goals.

It is expected that the internship and training activities come first, and any other roles/duties are secondary to the completion of the internship program.
