E.7.23.GL – Valley Oaks Training Manual Addendum

Site Learning Activities and Requirements #

All interns will participate in the internship learning activities as specified in the manual. Specific site activities/rotations/requirements above and beyond what is listed in the manual are provided below:

The primary placement for the Generalist (Crawfordsville) track position will be with the Montgomery County office in Crawfordsville, IN, with a secondary rotation at the Community Living Program for Children and Adolescents in Lafayette. The primary placement for the Child track position will be with the Community Living Program for Children and Adolescents in Lafayette, with a secondary rotations at the Montgomery County office in Crawfordsville, IN. The primary placement for the Generalist (Lafayette) track position will be with the main outpatient office in Lafayette with a secondary rotation with the Carroll County office in Delphi, IN.

Valley Oaks subscribes to a multidisciplinary team treatment approach, and the intern will have opportunities to work with psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, nurses, and case managers.

It is expected that the internship and training activities come first and any other roles/duties are secondary to the completion of the internship program.

Administrative Overview #

Salary:
$29,000

Schedule:
Full-time (40 hours per week) generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm from Monday – Friday with some room for flexibility as approved by primary supervisors. Interns in all tracks will spend the majority of their time at their primary office location with some expectation to travel to a satellite clinic or for a secondary rotation experience that may change over the course of the year.

Overtime:
Interns are allowed to work over 40 hours per week (never to exceed 50 hours per week), but only under the prior approval of their main primary supervisor. Interns are encouraged to keep overtime to a minimum.

Nights/Weekends:
No night or weekend work is required.

Malpractice Insurance:
If an intern is not covered by their school, Valley Oaks Health will provide insurance for them.

Mileage:
Mileage reimbursement will only be provided for travel between sites during the workday and for didactics, not from home to the worksite.

Benefits:
Interns are eligible for benefits offered to other site employees. Benefits will be discussed in detail during site orientation.

Leave Time #

Paid Time Off (PTO):
14 days (112 hours) combined vacation and sick leave available from your first day.

Professional Development Leave:
3 days (24 hours) of professional development leave.

Professional Development time is counted as PTO leave by Valley Oaks. To use this time, interns will coordinate their schedules with their Primary Supervisor and Training Director, and track the hours as PTO in their local system and as “Professional Development Leave” in the NPTC time tracking portal.

In an effort to promote self-care, interns are encouraged to utilize all leave time. Valley Oaks Health does pay out unused PTO time at the end of the year, or will rollover available PTO if the intern opts to stay with Valley Oaks post-internship. Please note: Valley Oaks requires that all interns either work their final day of internship, or have enough unused PTO to end no more than 5 business days prior to the official end date of internship.

When a scheduled holiday falls on a weekend the observed holiday is assigned according to individual site policy.

Site Directors/Supervisors cannot require an intern to work on any holiday listed above that the site does not observe. Interns are also not allowed to change their assigned holidays. Also, if a site observes additional holidays or is closed for other reasons and the intern is unable to work, the intern cannot be forced to use their vacation time or sick days.
